About Us

Sunrise Caribbean restaurant is a family style restaurant created by Trinidad American Chef Alisa Plaza. With a deep love for her Trinidadian food and heritage, she opened "Sunrise Caribbean Restaurant," a beloved Caribbean restaurant on Georgia Ave, NW Washington DC. Today.

Now Sunrise serves up authentic Trinidadian and Caribben dishes including roti, the beloved Trini street food "doubles" jerk chicken, stewed chicken, oxtails, fish, vegan dishes, Caribbean drinks and many more. On most weekends in the summer,  you can find Sunrise at various food festival around the Mid Atlantic region.

"People often assume that experiencing Jamaican cuisine, means they've tried all Caribbean food," Alisa explains, emphasizing the distinction of Trini flavors. At Sunrise, classics like buss up shut (flaky flatbread torn for dipping in curries) and doubles (fried mini flatbreads filled with curried chickpeas) are staples. Alisa notes, "In Trinidad, doubles are so popular that people build homes just from selling them." At Sunrise, these street-food favorites are available Fridays through Sundays.

Visit Sunrise, and explore a variety of Caribbean dishes, including plentiful vegan options.
